Because Cam was busy meeting with Arthur Gilbert, Quinn had been asked to accompany Shelby to her appointment at the college. Since she only had one semester left, there were forms to sign apparently, and she needed to meet with her advisor as well to make sure she was able to get all the classes she needed. Logan and Jared had given her the afternoon off so she could get all of these administrative tasks handled before school started the first week of September.

It was coming soon. She was excited to finally be finishing up her degree. It felt like she’d been doing this forever, and it was time to be done. She wanted to start her new career. Logan had already mentioned that they might have an opening in the accounting department if she wanted it. She’d be thrilled to stay at the firm as she adored her co-workers and the owners. It was the best job she’d ever had. Even before she’d started dating Cam.

“Shelby, I need to talk to you,” Quinn said, sitting down at the chair next to her desk. There was still over an hour before they needed to leave.

“You’re early,” she replied. “We don’t need to go until one.”

“This isn’t about your appointment at the college,” he said, his tone grim and his expression sober. “I think there’s something that you need to see.”

He held out his phone and she took it from his hand, studying the screen to see what had brought out his somber mood. For a moment, she didn’t see it, but when she did her heart plummeted to her feet.

Her stalker had been active. Again.

“How did you find this?”

This was a social media account. With her name and picture on it. She hadn’t even realized at first that it wasn’t her actual account because they’d stolen her photos.

“I was trying to track down who had taken over your email account,” he replied. “I found this. There are also accounts on other social media platforms. Someone is pretending to be you, Shelby.”

She didn’t know how she was supposed to react to something like this. Horror? Anger? Disgust and frustration? If anything, she was becoming numb to it all, her emotions shut down out of self-preservation.

Could anything shock her anymore? She didn’t think so.

“Why would someone do that?”

It didn’t make any sense to her, but then she’d never stalked anyone.

“Psychologically, it’s a feeling of power,” Quinn explained. “They’re trying to say that there isn’t anything you can do that they can’t control.”

“They want to control my life?”

“Remember, they don’t deal with reality. They have their own twisted idea of what the world around them is. If they can control you, they can make you conform to it. It doesn’t work, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t going to try. You can’t reason with obsession.”

She scrolled through the account and sure enough, some of her friends were interacting with her stalker who was posing as her. She did notice one thing, though.

In this account, it looked like she had reconciled with Brian.
